“THE FLYBOYS” SOAR INTO TEMECULA AS THE OPENING NIGHT FILM AT
THE 14th ANNUAL TEMECULA VALLEY INTERNATIONAL FILM & MUSIC FESITVAL
Festival Announces Exciting and Eclectic Film Line-up for 2008 TVIFF
Temecula, Calif. (August 21, 2008) – The Temecula Valley International Film and Music Festival (TVIFF) is proud to kick off its 14th annual event with the opening night screening of “The Flyboys” on September 17 with festivities beginning at 5:30 p.m. Produced and directed by Rocco DeVilliers and starring Stephen Baldwin, Tom Sizemore, Jesse James and Reilly McClendon, the film is a story about two kids from a small town who accidentally stow away aboard an airplane owned by the mob. The filmmakers completed “The Flyboys” on a budget of $2 million dollars.
“‘The Flyboys represents quintessential independent filmmaking and storytelling at its best,” said Film Festival Director Jo Moulton, “We are honored to present our festival audience and community with this award-winning feature and hope we can help give this film and its filmmakers the grand showcase it deserves.”
“Our final selection of films this year encompasses films from our own backyard all the way to Turkey, Scotland, Germany, the Philippines, India, Kurdistan, France and Africa,” said Steve Montal, director of Programming. “Temecula’s tradition of presenting showcases from leading film institutions around the globe continues this year. Special presentations include films from Independent Feature Project, The American Film Institute, UCLA, USC, Chapman University, Australia Film Radio Television School, Rome Independent Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival Group.”

THE 14th ANNUAL TEMECULA VALLEY INTERNATIONAL FILM & MUSIC FESITVAL
ANNOUNCES ECLECTIC GROUP OF ARTISTS SET TO PERFORM DURING
THE MUSICFEST EXTRAVAGANZA
Two local bands Fellguard and War Stories among those selected
Temecula, Calif. (August 21, 2008) – The Temecula Valley International Film and Music Festival (TVIFF) is excited to announce the 12 music artists selected to perform during the MusicFest Extravaganza at the 14th annual event. The styles represented among the performers ranges from folk, alternative rock, pop, power metal to hip hop among others.
“‘We are thrilled to present such a wide variety of musical acts to our community at the festival,” said Film Festival Director Jo Moulton, “From artists steeped in areas close to home to those with international flair, we feel we have a unique opportunity to expose diverse genres of music to a vast audience.”
Artists confirmed to appear include:
Kirsten Profitt
Love, passion, pain, and loss. These are the subjects of Kirsten's brand of guitar-driven pop/rock. Her songs ache but aren't depressing. They're emotional without melodrama. In both her lyrics and her performance, she conveys a hurting honesty with a sense of hope. For the 2006 Orange County Music Awards, Kirsten won "Best Female Artist" and was nominated for "Best Female Acoustic Live Performer."
FELLGUARD
Hailing from Murrieta, CA the group has fused a unique style similar to the northern European metal style, some call it "Power Metal." They were recently awarded "BEST HIGH SCHOOL BAND 2008" at the INLAND EMPIRE MUSIC AWARDS in January.
War Stories
Temecula-area band War Stories has been through tough times together, which were inspiration for songs on the new album. War Stories reminds some critics of a more melodic Interpol, with better and more distinctive vocals and a shout-out or two to moody '80s new wave.
The Luxury
Since summer 2005, Boston based, The Luxury have been transmitting their brand of British/American rock across the airwaves, over the ether and through the nightclub air with grace and gusto, earning fans around the globe, critical acclaim, award nominations, and radio airplay across the United States.
CONJOB
A potent combination of West Coast cool, hip hop swagger, sweet succulent melodies and big beefy beats, CONJOB has established themselves as one of the top unsigned live acts in Southern California.
Omar Torrez Band
OTB has shared the stage with musical giants, including the Buena Vista Social Club, Jethro Tull, Pancho Sanchez, Susana Baca, and Francisco Aguabella, as well as such underground favorites as Indigenous, B-side Players and Sidestepper. In the latest album, “The Beat Outside”, OTB has seamlessly blended their rock, funk, blues and Latin influences to make original yet radio friendly music.
Freezer Door
North Carolina’s FREEZER DOOR is one of music’s newest faces leaving their mark on the industry. Their self titled single, Freezer Door, is drawing rave reviews from fans and critics alike. The band's blend of pop, rock, and soul culminates into a fresh new sound.
Ali Milner
Canadian artist Milner writes her own material and accompanies herself on the piano. Her work has been noted for her pure voice wrapping itself around grooves that recall the birth of cool. From the land that gave us Krall and Buble, new high school graduate Milner is ready to kick it in gear to play her music to anyone and anybody who’ll listen!
HEY MISTER
This Las Vegas-based quartet comes on strong with killer hooks, irresistible rhythms and sing-along melodies the likes of which are rarely seen rising from the dustbowl of the Vegas Valley.
Olio
Olio produces electrifying, positive music from their studio in Los Angeles. Inspired by everything from Black Sabbath to Barry White these guys stir up an eclectic blend of music from hip-hop to funk, soul to rock and a dash of pop and serve it up nice and hot.
Mesa Drive
You could spend hours comparing Mesa Drive to other Pop/Rock groups like Jimmy Eat World and Maroon 5, but those comparisons would never do the band justice. A four-piece band built on the idea of simple songs with catchy melodies, Utah’s Mesa Drive not only defies stereotypical description; they define a new, unique sound. With their debut release Take What You Want, Mesa Drive blends jazzy rifts and smooth vocals with pop hooks and beats. The effect is infectious.
Starving for Gravity
Hailing from North Dakota, rock band Starving for Gravity’s songs are aggressive but accessible. They have recently worked with multi-platinum producer John “JR” Ryan of “Chicago Kid” Productions (Santana, Lynyrd Skynard, etc.) to record ten new tracks for their latest album “Urgency.”
Celebrating 14 years of excellence in film and music, the Temecula Valley International Film and Music Festival (TVIFF) will take place September 17-21 at The Movie Experience 10 at Tower Plaza in downtown Temecula, Calif. Five years in the making, the film traces the story of astronomer George Ellery Hale, considered the Father of Astrophysics, as he struggles personally and professionally to build the greatest telescopes of the 20th century at the Yerkes and Mount Wilson Observatories, and finally the 20-year effort to build the million-pound telescope on Palomar Mountain in the 1930’s. Hale’s observatories revolutionized our understanding of the universe, making headlines throughout the 20th century with revelations such as Edwin Hubble’s 1929 discovery of the expansion of the universe. The documentary includes rare archival footage and interviews with America’s top scientists and historians.

MUSIC LEGEND SMOKEY ROBINSON, FILM STAR MICHAEL MADSEN, FILM PRESERVATIONIST, EDUCATOR ROBERT ROSEN, LOCAL ARTS PATRON EVE CRAIG AND TECHNICOLOR
RISING STAR KAY PANABAKER ROUNDS UP THE STELLAR LIST OF CAREER ACHIEVEMENT HONOREES
Temecula, California (September 5th , 2007) – The Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival (TVIFF) has announced the award recipients and presenters for the Festival taking place on September 12-16, 2007. The Festival presents these prestigious awards upon icons in film and music that have made significant career contributions in their fields. The awards will go to soul and R&B legend Smokey Robinson, Rising star Kay Panabaker, acclaimed film actor Michael Madsen, film educator Robert Rosen, patroness of the arts Eve Craig, film composer Christopher Young, and Technicolor, the legendary company that brought color to the movies more than 90 years ago. The star-studded black tie affair takes place at the Pechanga Resort & Casino Ballroom on September 16th, 2007 at 5:00 pm.
Smokey Robinson – Lifetime Achievement Award in Music - Once hailed by Bob Dylan as “America’s greatest living poet,” acclaimed singer-songwriter’s career spans over four decades of hits. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Robinson founded The Miracles while still in high school. He is famous for creating sweet, soulful sounds including: “Shop Around;” “Tears of a Clown;” and “I Second That Emotion.” In addition to writing and singing hits, Robinson also found prodigious success as a music executive; he became Vice President of Motown Records and produced numerous hits for other Motown greats including The Temptations, Marvin Gaye and Mary Wells. He later turned to a solo career where he triumphed with such hits as “Cruisin’,” “Quiet Storm (which launched a music genre which persists to this day),” and “Just to See Her” and remained VP of Motown Records until the sale of the company to MCA in 1988.
Kay Panabaker – Rising Star Award - The very first award of it’s kind presented by the festival, this honor be given to the award-winning actress who, at the tender age of 17, is not only a veteran of television, stage, and film, but also holds a college degree! After guest-starring roles in shows including "ER", "7th Heaven", and "Angel", in 2003 Kay was cast as Nikki Westerly on the drama "Summerland", and that necessitated a move to sunny California. Kay was singled out for her performance in the show with a Young Artist Award for "Best Performance by a Leading Young Actress in a TV Series - Comedy or Drama". Kay has since been seen on TV shows "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", "Medium" and "Phil of the Future", as well as two Disney Channel Original Movies, "Life is Ruff" and "Read It and Weep," which also starred her sister, Danielle. She was seen in 2007 in the feature film "Nancy Drew", playing George, who fans of the books will recognize as one of Nancy's best friends. Upcoming films include a Lifetime movie to air in September, "Moondance Alexander" in theaters in October, and later "The Prince & the Pauper" (premiering at this year’s Temecula Festival) and "Rails & Ties".
Michael Madsen – Outstanding Career Achievement in Acting -- Just as his credits run the gamut from the hippest of cult films to the biggest studio blockbusters, his characters transcend beyond both ends of the spectrum. He is the ear-slicing Mr. Blonde in Quentin Tarantino’s “Reservoir Dogs,” dancing and humming to the tune “Stuck in the Middle with You;” the deviant killer in THE “Getaway” with Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin; the psycho killer in John Dahl’s “Kill Me Again;” the Mafia family captain Sonny Black in “Donnie Brasco” with Al Pacino and Johnny Depp; the over-the-top cop in “Mulholland Falls;” and the hard-core government operative in “Species.” Madsen reunited with Quentin Tarantino for the first time in over ten years as “Budd” (aka Sidewinder) in Tarantino’s new blockbuster “Kill Bill, Volume 2” with Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Darryl Hannah, and Lucy Liu among others. Madsen also appeared in “Sin City,” Robert Rodriguez’s adaptation of Frank Miller’s stories based on the fictional town of Sin City alongside Josh Hartnett, Bruce Willis, Brittany Murphy, Elijah Wood and others. Defying the definition of the “stereotypical Hollywood actor,” whether in front of a camera or behind the scenes, there’s only one simple way to describe Michael Madsen. He personifies the word “cool.”
Robert Rosen - Lifetime Achievement Award for Significant Contributions to Education and Film Preservation. Rosen is the Dean of UCLA’s prestigious School of Theater, Film and Television. He served as Founding Director of UCLA’s Film & Television Archive, guiding its growth from a small study collection to the world’s largest university-based holding of original film and television materials, second only to the US Library of Congress. With Martin Scorsese he organized The Film Foundation, an organization committed to film preservation and saving our motion picture heritage for future generations.
Eve Craig - Lifetime Achievement Award for Significant Contributions to the Advancement of the Arts and Culture in Temecula Valley. Known as the consummate “Patroness of The Arts and Volunteerism,” Eve Craig has played a significant role in the promotion and preservation of the arts and history of Temecula. Not only has she chaired the Temecula Arts Festival over the years, she has also served as President of the Arts Council and as President of the Hollywood Bowl Patroness Committee in her early career.
Christopher Young - Outstanding Career Achievement in Film Composing. Renowned music composer, Christopher Young, has scored 85 feature films and is regarded as one of Hollywood’s most prolific and significant film composers. His credits include “Spider Man 3”, “Entrapment” and “The Hurricane”.
Technicolor - Distinguished Institution Award - one of Hollywood’s most recognized icons, will receive the Distinguished Institution Award at TVIFF this year. Past recipients have included the American Film Institute and Without a Box. Since bringing color to motion pictures 90 years ago, Technicolor has evolved into a global and diversified corporation that is now considered the preeminent worldwide provider of services to the media and entertainment industries. With clients including DreamWorks SKG, New Line Cinema, Paramount, Sony Pictures Entertainment Universal, Twentieth Century Fox, The Walt Disney Company, and Warner Bros. Pictures, Technicolor is a living Hollywood legend and continues to be a pioneer in the media and entertainment industries.
Historically, TVIFF has had the honor of hosting dozens of distinguished guests over the years including (in alphabetical order): SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER director John Badham; the legendary Ray Charles; USC Film School Dean Elizabeth Daley; Ted Danson; Hector Elizondo; AFI Executive Director Jean Picker Firstenberg; producer Lucas Foster; The Sundance Film Festival’s Program Director Geoffrey Gilmore; Louis Gossett, Jr.; producer Howard Gordon; Isaac Hayes; Dennis Haysbert; Etta James; Shirley Jones; MY COUSIN VINNY’S Jonathan Lynn; Karl Malden; Entertainment Tonight’s Leonard Maltin; Adrian Paul; Billy Preston; film composers Steve Dorff, Trevor Rabin and John Ottman; Carl Reiner; Rick Schroeder; William Shatner; The West Wing’s late star John Spencer and Martin Sheen; Mary Steenburgen; director Bryan Singer; Diane Warwick and Robert Wise.

TVIFF Announces the Rockin' Bands Set to Perform at the 2007 MusicFest
Temecula, California (August, 27, 2007) -- The Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival (TVIFF) is excited to announce the smörgåsbord of musical artists performing this year. The electrifying music heats up the valley from September 12-16, 2007 at the courtyard of Tower Plaza. Check back for specific days and times.
SHANNON CURTIS
Friday, Sept. 14, 7PM
When she was 7, her piano teacher told her she played like a boy. Today, Shannon still kills her piano and delivers a vocal performance that is, in her signature style, intimate and powerful. The Los Angeles Times describes Shannon as a “beautiful piano player who sounds like the love child of Fiona Apple and Norah Jones.” As a performer, she endears her audience with her affable charm and humor. As a songwriter, she is candid and unafraid.
MICHAEL TIERNAN
Friday, Sept. 14, 7:35PM
It’s hard to believe that just a few years ago Michael was a young seminarian studying at the Vatican, raising the ire of his superiors by playing gigs in the Italian pubs. Just a year away from being ordained, Michael left that calling for a higher one: his life long love for music. Today, he’s one of West Coast’s hottest songwriters/ performers. Drawing comparisons ranging from James Taylor to Counting Crows to Woodie Guthrie, his music is a unique brand of acoustic guitar-centric blending of folk, rock, pop, soul and bluegrass.
SECOND MOVEMENT
Friday, Sept. 14, 8:05pm
Formed in 2003, this jazz-funk 5-pc band from New York City has emerged as an energetic and original voice within the jazz and jamband scenes. Second Movement’s mission is to create music that lends itself to a danceable environment. It’s no coincidence their hard-driving funky jazz sound works the groove to fill the dance floor with bopping bodies! Second Movement’s music is the kind that must be heard and experience in a live setting. The compositional detail, the rhythmic focus, the burning solos – everything you hear on their recordings take on an even greater intensity during their live shows. The result is deeply gratifying, if not ecstatic – an exchange of positive, creative energies on a fundamental human level.
MIGGS
Friday, Sept. 14, 8:35PM
One of San Francisco’s top indie bands, MIGGS blends musical genres and moves from alt/rock to emo to pop and classic melodic rock with grace and ease. Heartfelt lyrics, memorable live shows, catchy hooks, and vocal harmonies captivate MIGGS fans everywhere.
THE CONS
Friday, Sept. 14, 9:05PM
With their matching modish tailored suits, combined with bright, layered vocals reminiscent of the British Invasion sound of the 60’s and early American art/punk rock of the Velvet underground , The Cons play their music with a confident, classic undeniable vibe.
THE DIVINE MADNESS
Friday, Sept. 14, 9:35PM
A cinematic Rock/Goth with style, Divine Madness draws its inspiration from such diverse influences as 80’s New Wave, Brit Rock, classical music, and film composers such as Danny Elfman. They have carved out a distinct sound of angelic vocals with epic choruses, cinematic alt/rock/classical instrumentation, electronic touches and a sensual gothic feel.
KANDACE FERREL
Saturday, Sept. 15, 6:30PM
This 19 year old is the complete ‘package.’ She can write, play the guitar, keyboards, and without a doubt, she can belt out songs like there’s no tomorrow. With powerful pipes, aggressive tunes, and sophisticated instrumentation, Kandace delivers with incredible stage presence wherever she performs.
TIM MILLER
Saturday, Sept. 15, 7:00PM
Texan native Tim Miller learned to play the flute when he was in fifth grade. In sixth grade, he got bored with the flute and switched to guitar. He wrote his first song in eighth grade. He hasn’t stopped writing, performing, and delighting audiences with fresh original music since.
GHOST
Saturday, Sept. 15, 7:35PM
Ghost’s eclectic mix of ultra funk, soul and hip hop, combined with their full throttle, in your face performances, no doubt has set ablaze their string of sold out shows in Los Angeles’s The Gig, The Viper Room, the Whiskey, The Key Club, and more. Ghost presents an intriguing blend of funk and hip-hop that incorporates a modern take on the Check Your Head-era Beastie Boys and Brand New Heavies with Sly & the Family Stone-style choruses. There's also a taste of dance-hall reggae thrown in for good measure. Their arrangements are tight, never allowing the hip hop elements to over shadow the funk, and vice versa. Ghost’s balanced style is energetic, fun and pretty potent.
MR. MAJESTIC
Saturday, Sept. 15, 8:05PM
“Music is life.” For Majestic, that saying couldn’t be more than true. Influenced by Dennis Brown, Bob Marley and his aunt, Music has always been a part of this Jamaican native’s life. Majestic describes his music as an upbeat Roots Reggae Vibe with a fusion of Hip Hop, R&B and Rock.
LEMON SUN
Saturday, Sept. 15, 8:35PM
Lemon Sun entwine a mélange of glamourous rock and roll, the innovation of indie rock, a rush of Motown soul, and whimsical tinges of psychedelia. This 3-lads and a gal 4-piece Los Angeles based band has steadily built a name and following for their energetic brand of rock and roll. With their toe tapping vocal harmonies and catchy hooks, Lemon Sun carries and wears that elusive and enviable natural x-factor down pat!
DAVID THIELE
Saturday, Sept. 15, 9:05PM
A Chicago native, David migrated to L.A. in 2003 to pursue a music career. Since then, he’s self-produced his own album, won multiple songwriting awards, placed music on network TV shows (Cold Case, High School Reunion, etc.) and was named one of Music Connection’s “Hottest Unsigned Artists” two years in a row. David’s work in Nashville writing songs for BMG Publishing helped hone his craft for writing tasteful melodies and heart gripping hooks. In the fall, he will be debuting his first major label album, “Beautiful Mess.”
AFTER MIDNIGHT PROJECT
Saturday, Sept. 15, 9:35 PM
Formed in 2004, this 5-piece band has not looked back. Jason, TJ, Dan, Christian, and Spencer come together to mesh an intriguing combination of pop, soul, and rock that have created comparisons to Incubus, Nine Inch Nails, and Smashing Pumpkins. 2006 was a phenomenal year for AMP, what with ringtone deals and music licensed by ABC, MTV, and NBC, in addition to a single licensed to X-BOX video game “Prey”, with 2.2 million gamers rocking to their music.
JUPITER
Saturday, Sept. 15, 10:05PM
While the alternative rock and pop rock influence can be heard from this 5-piece band, their rich textured lyrics and great vocals combined are what makes Jupiter’s sound garner them ‘U-2 meets Depeche Mode’ comparisons. Jordan, Evan, Aaron, Jimmy and Ken—all together as Jupiter, have created powerful and fresh blend of rock and pop.

Temecula, CA (March 21, 2007) -- For over a decade, filmmakers and musicians from across America and around the globe come to Temecula every September to enjoy and participate in the celebration of the two most influential, most enduring, and most entertaining art forms: film and music.
